hi. i’m ashley. i’m a hot mess.
and i made midnightsidequest because i wanted a space that didn’t demand perfection to be worth showing up for. a space that isn’t managed by someone else, or following someone else’s timeline or expectations. it’s for me, and you. and that’s more than enough for me to keep working on it.
yes, i do get sidetracked. i don’t always upload consistently. for the past week i’ve been working on a customized adventure rpg modpack to play for a series, and allow others to play too, potentially on my own server as well. what? who said that??? it’s totally got nothing to do with a “Chaos Gremlin Academy” .. or something *wink*
anyways…
i wanted a place for my little niche interests
not the big “main quest” life stuff.. not productivity, not hustle, not career, not college, not being the best at anything. I have enough of that in my real life. it doesn’t need to infect my hobbies too.
midnightsidequest is just the little things i actually care about:
- playing the same game 50 different ways
- trying new nerdy things that i have no idea how to accomplish
- yelling about fictional characters
- building cozy worlds
- posting silly clips that make me laugh
- showing up exactly how i am
i’ll never.. and i mean never be the kind of person to get dressed up for every video, clean my room before recording, or eat breakfast before a spontaneous morning session. i do just what comes to me in the moment, and sometimes going without a plan can be fun. other times, lots of things end up going wrong, which can be equally fun if you embrace it.
the vibe of midnightsidequest is chaos, but gentle
i wanted this channel to feel like you’re on discord with a friend and just watching them play their games badly while you do something else, and everything is peaceful. it’s a space to stay up way too late, hyperfixate on weird stuff, safe enough to try stuff just for fun, and a kind of mess that just makes sense. and the best part? i still enjoy it even if nobody watches.
take my “bad at fantasy minecraft” series i started where i play Fantasy MC Fabric by PixelStudios on CurseForge. i just recorded #3.. and of course, it didn’t go the way i had hoped because once again, i don’t plan ahead. and as such, i ran out of space for the Replay Mod recordings that i was excited to review at the end of the session. but, that just adds to the crazy. when will it be uploaded? .. good question!
it’s a creative outlet i don’t have to be good at
i have adhd. i burn out. i disappear sometimes.
and i come back.
this channel is allowed to be inconsistent.
it’s also allowed to be really cool when i have the energy.
it’s my playground. my weird little archive.
and maybe it’ll be a cozy corner for someone else, too.

midnightsidequest isn’t made for the overly enthusiastic, high energy, high pressure people. there are more than enough channels for fast paced, consistent, forced-fun style content. i made this for the people who start videos while they eat, and close them when they finish eating. they might not ever come back to that same video any time soon, but they will eventually. it’s for the people like me who want to create, but need it to be on their terms.
if you’re the kind of person who needs constant adventure, outward enthusiasm, lots of energy, organization, and a plan for each video.. this probably isn’t for you.
